I am unclear why Yahoo search has a penalty against my website – beyourowndetective.com. I maintain a clean content rich site. I made sure my site is complying with the content guidelines, and is free of violations.

I asked Yahoo several different times about it but I only get the standard response “It has been determined your site may not comply with our quality content guidelines,” nothing else.

The problem is what exactly Yahoo has a problem with is a total mystery. Google is much more clear on this issue and far more forgiving. There’s a lot of speculation, conspiracy theories and rumors about possible causes of Yahoo penalties and bans going around SEO discussion forums, so I honestly don’t know what to believe. Some people claim Yahoo bans and penalties are permanent, while others say they’ve had theirs successfully lifted in a fairly short time.

Only my homepage is fully indexed with a Cache. Most others are dead links to long gone pages I removed a year ago.
To be perfectly honest, I admit I did do some blackhat stuff in the past that did infact already get me banned from Google last year, but I was reincluded after I cleaned up my site and removed the violations. Last year I was using a page generation program called Rankingpower. I was never banned from Yahoo at the time. I was continuing to receive traffic from Yahoo for a few weeks after having removed all the rankingpower pages. The penalty actually occurred a couple weeks later, so I’m wondering if this might be a retroactive penalty.

I have done plenty of reciprocal linking, but I severely cut these way down to a much smaller number of related links, and I am not accepting any more.

I used copyscape.com to check for duplicate content, and also checked to see if I am linking to any banned sites.

I sincerely want to run a clean whitehat site, so if there are still any problems I’m not aware of, it is my intention to correct it.
I’ve never had any trouble with Yahoo groups. I belong to 2 of them.

Upon checking my Yahoo site index, I noticed a positive development that suggests I might no longer be under penalty. 2 of my pages are now cached (homepage and main blog page).

I created a urllist.txt sitemap and submitted it to Yahoo.
